World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually during the first week of August, championed by WHO, UNICEF, Ministries of Health, and civil society partners around the globe.

It serves as a powerful reminder of the importance of breastfeeding as a foundation for lifelong health, development, and equity.
The theme for World Breastfeeding Week 2025 is “Prioritize Breastfeeding: Create Sustainable Support Systems.” This theme underscores the need to establish strong and enduring support systems for breastfeeding mothers—ranging from national policies to community-level initiatives. The campaign calls for collective action to ensure that all mothers receive the comprehensive support they need to breastfeed successfully.
At Mongar Hospital, World Breastfeeding Week was observed under the leadership of the Departments of Pediatrics and Obstetrics & Gynaecology. The celebration was graced by the presence of the Medical Superintendent, doctors, unit in-charges, and nurses from the NICU, Pediatric Ward, and Gynaecology Ward.
Throughout the week, the departments, in collaboration with the MCH (Maternal and Child Health) unit, will carry out advocacy activities for patients and visitors at the hospital. Additionally, there are plans to develop educational materials highlighting the harmful effects of alcohol and tobacco on both the mother and the developing fetus. These materials will be distributed to every pregnant woman visiting the hospital.
