Department of Traditional Medicine at ERRH have started a new service called โ€œThruelkhorโ€œ. It is a classical therapy in Traditional Medicine, also known in Ayurveda as Shirodhara which is widely practiced in Bhutanese and Indian traditional medicine. The term Shirodhara comes from Sanskrit: โ€˜shiroโ€™ meaning โ€˜headโ€™ and dhara meaning โ€˜flowโ€™ or โ€˜streamโ€™. This therapy involves the gentle, continuous, and rhythmic pouring of warm herbal oils, decoctions, or medicated liquids onto the forehead, specifically over the โ€œthird eyeโ€ region.

There are four types of Thruelkhor Therapy: Numgi Thruelkhor (Oil Pouring), Womai Thruelkhor (Milk pouring),

Thang gi Thruelkhor (Decoction Pouring), and Chui Thruelkhor (Cold Water Pouring).

Generally the therapy has the following benefits;

โ€ข Promotes mental relaxation and reduces stress, anxiety, and tension.

โ€ข Enhances sleep quality, often recommended for insomnia.

โ€ข Improves cognitive function and mental clarity.

โ€ข Balances the three humors (Lung, Thripa, Badkan), particularly calming Lung and Thripa imbalances.

โ€ข Help in migraine relief, nervous disorders, and fatigue.

Thruelkhor is valued for its holistic approach, targeting both physical and mental well-being, and is often integrated with other Ayurvedic or traditional treatments.
