World Glaucoma Week is being observed from 8-14th March, 2026. At ERRH a series of activities aimed at raising awareness about glaucoma and promoting eye health were carried out among healthcare workers and the community.

The observation of day at ERRH began with offering of Zhabten and prayers for the continued good health and long life of His Majesty The King followed by a cake-cutting ceremony. Opening remarks were delivered by the ophthalmologist, Dr. Sandip Tamang, who highlighted the importance of observing World Glaucoma Week.
The theme for this year is “Uniting for a Glaucoma-Free World.” Dr. Sandip emphasized that early detection and regular eye examinations are crucial to prevent vision loss caused by glaucoma, often referred to as the “silent thief of sight.”This was followed by remarks from the Medical Superintendent, who emphasized the collective role of healthcare professionals in raising awareness and ensuring the timely diagnosis and management of eye diseases.
A presentation on glaucoma was also delivered by Dr. Sandip to hospital staff to enhance their understanding of the disease, its risk factors, and the importance of early screening and referral.
As part of the week’s outreach activities, the ophthalmology team conducted eye screening for nuns at Yakpugang Dratshang. The session also included awareness on glaucoma and other eye-related conditions, encouraging regular eye examinations and early treatment to prevent avoidable vision loss.
ERRH remains committed to strengthening eye care services and continuing community outreach initiatives to promote eye health and prevent blindness.
