Hospital Acquired infections (HAIs) remain a major challenge to patient safety and healthcare quality worldwide. These largely preventable infections contribute to prolonged hospital stays, increased antimicrobial resistance, higher healthcare costs, and poorer patient outcomes. Strengthening the capacity of the frontline healthcare workers to prevent, detect, and respond to HAIs is therefore essential for delivering safe and effective healthcare services.

To enhance infection prevention and control (IPC) practices at ERRH, Mongar, a training on HAI Care Bundles and revised checklists was conducted in three batches on 29 May, 1 June, and 2 June 2026 for 115 nurses from 10 wards and units. The training focused on HAI prevention strategies, revised care bundle checklists, and the role of nurses in combating antimicrobial resistance (AMR) through antimicrobial stewardship (AMS). Sessions covered key HAIs, including Central Line-Associated Bloodstream Infection (CLABSI), Catheter-Associated Urinary Tract Infection (CAUTI), Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia (VAP), and Surgical Site Infection (SSI).
The training enhanced participants’ knowledge and readiness to implement standardized infection prevention measures and reinforced adherence to standard precautions and aseptic techniques. The training was facilitated by the Quality Assurance and Infection Prevention and Control focal person, Nursing Superintendent, Medical Specialist, and trained nursing staff.
We would like to thank KGUMSB for the refreshment and lunch for the training.
