The 2026 ERRH Interdepartmental Football Tournament concluded today with Sowa United emerging as champions after a commanding 6-1 victory over Level-1 United. The tournament featured seven teams made up of players mainly from the hospital, and other health centres, and PHCs. Sowa United received a cash prize of Nu. 50,000, while the runners-up were awarded Nu. 30,000. Match officials were also recognized with nominal cash tokens of appreciation. The prize money was funded through team entry fees.

Organized annually, the tournament aims to promote physical activity, healthy lifestyles, and staff well-being through sports and exercise as an important strategy for preventing non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Running from June 6, the competition attracted spectators from the town each evening, providing a healthy and engaging recreational activity for both participants and supporters.

The Interdepartmental Football Tournament has a proud history spanning 14 years, with the inaugural edition held in 2012 involving five teams. Nursing United won the first-ever championship against Laboratory FC in a memorable final that remained tied even after extra time and penalties by all players, ultimately requiring a coin toss to determine the winner.

The ERRH administration extends its sincere appreciation to Mr. Chundu Tshering, Staff Nurse of the hospital for his dedication in organizing the tournament over the past couple of years and to the Mongar Sports Association for generously providing the public ground and match balls
