May 12 is celebrated every year as the International Nurses Day. Today, Eastern Regional Referral Hospital celebrated International Nurses Day to honor the invaluable contributions of nurses, who are regarded as the backbone of the healthcare system. This year’s theme, “Our Nurses. Our Future. Empowered Nurses Save Lives,” highlights the vital role nurses play in shaping the future of healthcare and emphasize the importance of empowering nurses through leadership, decision-making, and patient care responsibilities.

The celebration was graced by the Medical Superintendent as the Chief Guest and attended by hospital Lams, Heads of Departments, doctors, In-Charges, administrative and paramedical staff, supervisors, and students from Arura Academy of Health Sciences and Apollo Bhutan Institute of Nursing. The program included the recitation of Tashi Tsegpa, offering of Zhabten for the long life of His Majesty the King, the Nightingale Pledge, lighting of butter lamps, and cake cutting ceremony.
During the event, the Officiating Nursing Superintendent and the Medical Superintendent acknowledged the dedication, compassion, and selfless service of nurses, while voluntary speakers also expressed appreciation for their unwavering commitment to caring for the sick and suffering. The highlight of the celebration was the distribution of tokens of appreciation to all nurses through nursing ICs, a wheel-of-fortune lucky draw with cash prizes, and cultural dance performances by students. The program concluded with a group photo session and refreshments.
