As part of the hospital’s Contingency Plan for Disaster and Emergency preparedness, an earthquake mock drill was conducted today to test the effectiveness of emergency response capabilities and coordination mechanisms. Mock drills provide healthcare workers with practical experience in disaster response and help ensure that staff are prepared to carry out their roles and responsibilities effectively during actual emergencies.

The exercise simulated a Level III emergency, requiring the evacuation of all indoor patients, OPD patients, attendants, visitors, and staff members. Twenty-three student actors portrayed as patients with various medical conditions, enabling the Hospital Disaster Management Team to realistically assess patient evacuation, triage, communication, and resource mobilization processes. Both internal and external evaluators were involved in overseeing and evaluating the mock drill.

The observations and recommendations generated from the exercise will contribute to strengthening hospital preparedness, enhancing interdepartmental coordination.

Likewise, all hospital staff were trained on fire hazard and safety measures including the operation of different fire extinguishers with the assistance from RBP, Mongar a month ago.

The last mock drill was conducted on June 8, 2024
